I have read and agree to the terms as set forth in the user agreement.
Due to the not-for-profit status of The Give Initiative, which requires everything we do to be open to the public and to the IRS, by penalty of law, you agree to use The Give Initiative services for the intended use(s) which include but are not limited to:
(1) Help a Friend
(a) This service is strictly to be used to help an individual or family that are struggling financially and could use temporary financial assistance.
(b) This can not be used to pay for services, such as payroll (in an attempt to get around paying taxes) or other things, not related to the non-profit purposes of The Give Initiative as stated in the articles of organization and other government filed documents.
(i) All illegal use of this service will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
(2) Fill the Jar
(a) This service is strictly to be used to create “jars” and fill “jars”. A jar is simply an electronic version of the jars you commonly find in supermarkets or banks where individuals may donate to a cause, such as helping a family pay the medical bills for a sick child, or raising money for a family who just lost a parent in a tragic accident or other causes of death.
(b) Anyone who creates a “jar” will have to provide proof of a real need before the funding is released.
(i) For money raised to assist with medical bills, the provided document must be signed by the person receiving the money (or legal guardian) and a medical professional as designated on the form.
(ii) For other needs, such as setting up a foundation for a family who just lost their father, any other documents solidifying proof will be accepted (i.e. published documents such as an obituary, news article, electronic media. Government issued documents, such as a copy of the death certificate, will also be accepted). These are just some examples of proof. When the time comes to release the raised funds, this will be discussed further.
(iii) If we find that a “jar” was created in violation to the rules outlined in this user agreement and/or any other page describing the purpose(s) of this service and money has already been donated to “the cause,” The Give Initiative reserves the right to donate the raised funds to a reputable charity of our choice.
(3) Support a Cause
(a) This service is strictly set-up for anonymous giving to one of the sponsored external charities or a donation to The Give Initiative for general purposes.
